SIRET number allocation issues

Since updating its IT systems, INSEE has been experiencing recurring disruptions, leading to anomalies in certain filings.

These technical issues particularly affect procedures involving a SIRET number (the 14-digit code that uniquely identifies each establishment of a company).

💡

The commercial court registries and INSEE are aware of these difficulties. The problem has not yet been resolved and requires manual processing of files by INSEE, which extends timescales by several days.

Affected filings

The disruptions affect the following filings:

  • Opening and closing of secondary establishments

  • Registered office transfer

  • Change of activity involving a change of APE code or a new SIRET

In practice, even after the filing has been validated by the registry, the company's INSEE data may sometimes not be up to date or may contain errors.

Examples of common issues:

  • Registered office transfer not visible on INPI: your office transfer has been validated by the registry but does not appear on the INPI website.

  • Secondary establishment still shown as active: although you have closed a secondary establishment, it is still listed as open on INPI.

  • New secondary establishment cannot be found: your application to open a new secondary establishment has been filed with the registry, but it is not recognised by INSEE.

Important

Before concluding there is a problem, it is advisable to wait a few days after the filing has been validated, as updating the data on the INPI website can take time.

How to resolve this issue?

If you notice a malfunction, you can contact INSEE by email to obtain a resolution. Follow these steps:

  1. Contact INSEE

  2. Contact address: contact@contact-insee.fr

  3. Provide essential information

  4. In your message, specify the following details:

    • RCS number of the company concerned

    • Detailed description of the problem

    • Transmission number (G followed by 11 digits) – request this number from the registry that processed the filing.

    • Date of transmission – also available from the registry.

  5. INSEE response time

  6. The stated processing time is 8 to 15 working days, but responses can often be obtained more quickly.

Alex Legal's practical tip to avoid complications

To limit the risk of malfunctions and benefit from simplified tracking, we recommend using the Guichet Unique for registered office transfers and other establishment changes. This makes processing easier and reduces resolution times in the event of problematic transmission with INSEE.
